The ICAO/ITU alphabet

One word per letter, chosen to be understood in every language and through the noise: aviation (ICAO) and telecommunications (ITU) have shared the same since the 1950s. Amateurs use it on phone, to spell callsigns, locators and names.

F4IOZ — Foxtrot Four India Oscar Zulu.
EA8/F4IOZ — Echo Alfa Eight Stroke Foxtrot Four India Oscar Zulu (“stroke” or “slash” for the slash).
The official spelling is Alfa and Juliett, so that no language reads “ph” or a silent “t”.

Good to know Digits are simply said in English; aviation also says “tree” (3), “fife” (5) and “niner” (9), which the game accepts. Mexico, Santiago, Kilowatt… are sometimes heard on the air, but they are not the alphabet's words: the game uses them as traps.
