Up and down

An amateur satellite listens on one frequency, the uplink, and sends back what it hears on another, the downlink. The mode is written with two letters, the uplink's band then the downlink's: V for 2 m (VHF), U for 70 cm (UHF). V/U: up on VHF, down on UHF; U/V, the other way round — the old “mode B”.

FM repeater: one channel, like a ground repeater in the sky. One station at a time.
Linear transponder: a whole band sent back, dozens of SSB and CW contacts at once. Often inverting: the bottom of the uplink comes out at the top of the downlink — up in LSB, down in USB.
APRS, SSTV, beacon, telemetry: packets relayed, pictures, a sign of life, the satellite's health.

Where it comes from The frequencies are SatNOGS DB's as SatMe keeps them, in MHz, without the Doppler (up to ±10 kHz on UHF). AO-07's uplink (432.125 MHz) is older than the 435 to 438 MHz satellite sub-band. Satellites whose frequencies SatMe does not keep are not in the game.
